In short

Small electronics are devices with a cable, battery or solar cell, usually below 50 cm. They can contain valuable metals and harmful substances and must not end up in residual waste.

Common mistakes

  • Batteries should be removed and sorted separately if possible.
  • Large electronics usually need to be delivered at a recycling centre.
  • Light bulbs, lamps and fluorescent tubes usually do not belong with small electronics.
  • Electronics must not be placed in residual waste, even when broken.

Battery or device?

Small devices are sorted as small electronics

Mobile phones, remote controls, cables, electric toothbrushes, small kitchen appliances and electronic toys can usually be sorted as small electronics.

Batteries and hazardous parts must be handled correctly

Remove loose batteries if you can do so safely. If the battery is built in, deliver the whole device as electronics so the battery can be handled responsibly.

Check local rules

Danish municipalities may have different schemes for red boxes, electronics bins, supermarket collection, pickup and size limits for electronics. Find your municipality.

Small electronics

Small electronics include discarded electronic devices and equipment powered by a cable, battery or solar cell. This can include phones, remote controls, small kitchen appliances, cables, electric toothbrushes and electronic toys.

Why electronics are sorted separately

Electronics contain valuable materials such as metals and plastics, but they can also contain substances that should not end up in ordinary waste. Sorting small electronics separately makes it possible to recover materials and handle harmful components responsibly. Remove batteries first if possible.
