Who is responsible?
This policy covers the mit-affald.dk website (Mit Affald) and the Affaldsguide Danmark app. Simple Web, owned by Oliver Kronholm Thomsen, is responsible for the information we receive through these services. For privacy questions, contact info@simplecode.dk.
Searches and photos
You can use the website and app without an account or providing your name or email address. On the website, sorting data is loaded in your browser. When you visit a page, the website’s technical providers receive ordinary request information such as your IP address, the time and the page address. An item name may appear in the address of a search result page.
Ordinary searches in the app use a waste database on your device. For photo search, the app sends the selected image area to our service at mit-affald.dk, which forwards the image to Google Gemini to identify visible objects. If online recognition fails, the photo is analyzed on your iPhone or Android phone. We do not store the image in our own database and ask Google not to store the interaction itself; Google may retain limited safety logs. Our hosting provider may process technical request information, including IP address and time. The website does not offer photo search.
Location and maps
If you allow the app to access your location, it is used on your device to calculate distances to recycling centres. We do not receive or store your precise location for this feature. You can change the permission in your device settings. If you open an address in an external maps app, that service’s privacy policy applies.
On the website, you can allow your browser to access your location to find nearby recycling centres. The location is used in the browser for distance calculations and map display; we do not store it in a user account. Website maps load tiles from OpenStreetMap, whose services may receive your IP address and information about the displayed map area. Read the OpenStreetMap privacy statement.
Collection calendar on the website and in the apps
The collection calendar is available on the website and in the iPhone and Android apps and requires an internet connection. When you search for an address, the municipality, postcode, street and optional house number are sent to our calendar service at mit-affald.dk. The service uses Affald-DK to ask the relevant local waste provider for addresses. When you select an address or refresh the calendar, the municipality and selected address ID are sent to the service to retrieve pickup dates. We use this information to display your calendar and do not store addresses or pickup data in our own database. Our hosting provider may process technical request information, including IP address and time.
On the website, your selected calendar address is saved in your browser’s local storage. Change address removes it. The website does not offer calendar reminders. In the iPhone and Android apps, your selected address, reminder settings and chosen waste categories are stored locally on your device. If you enable reminders and allow notifications, the app schedules local notifications based on pickup dates. You can turn them off in the app or in your device settings. Change address removes the app’s saved calendar address; delete the app to remove all its local data.
Information on your device
The app stores information including your selected municipality, language and recent searches locally on your device. Features such as onboarding and achievements are available in some versions and may also store local information. This information is not sent to us during ordinary use. You can remove the app’s local information by deleting it, subject to backups you manage through your device platform. The website does not have the app’s achievements or local recent-search history.
Sorting corrections and contact
If you use the correction form, we receive the item name, displayed sorting guidance, your suggestion, any comment, the language and any email address you provide. Website submissions also include the page address. An email address is optional and is used if we need to reply. Do not include sensitive personal information in the comment.
The suggestion is sent to mit-affald.dk and forwarded as an email through Resend. We use it to review the suggestion, respond and improve the guide. If you contact us directly by email, we process your address and message to respond. We keep correspondence for as long as needed for these purposes, then delete or anonymise it unless the law requires longer retention. Resend may process email information outside the EU/EEA. Read Resend’s privacy policy.
Analytics and advertising
The website uses Vercel Web Analytics for aggregate statistics about visits, pages, browsers and devices to improve the website. Vercel states that this service does not use third-party cookies and is not designed to identify individual visitors. Read Vercel’s Web Analytics privacy information.
When operational statistics are enabled, we store daily aggregate counters for the calendar service and photo recognition in Supabase: request counts, response times, outcome status, municipality or model name, and available token usage and estimated API cost. These statistics contain no addresses, address IDs, photos, search text, IP addresses or user IDs. They do not use cookies or local storage on your device. Only a private administrator dashboard can access them; entries older than 400 days are removed when the dashboard is visited.
The Android version of the app uses Google AdMob for advertising. Google may process technical information about the device and advertising. Read Google’s privacy policy. The iPhone version of the app and the website do not display ads.
Purposes and your rights
We process information to provide and protect the website, handle correspondence and improve the guide. For processing we control, our basis is our legitimate interest in a safe and useful service. Device location access requires your permission. Processing for advertising in the Android version follows the choices and rules applicable to ads.
Email info@simplecode.dk to request access to, correction or deletion of information about you, or to object to processing based on our legitimate interest. Describing a previous message helps us find it. Your rights depend on the circumstances. You can complain to the Danish Data Protection Agency.
We update this policy if our features or handling of information change.
