Aarhus Municipality is Denmark’s second-largest city and is known as the City of Smiles, with cultural life and sights such as Den Gamle By and ARoS Art Museum. The city is an education and innovation centre with a modern atmosphere and a balance between urban life and nature.
See the postal cities and postcodes associated with the municipality.
In Aarhus Municipality, household waste is sorted into ten fractions: food waste, residual waste, paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, metal, textiles, food and beverage cartons and hazardous waste. The utility company Kredsløb manages sorting, recycling stations and guidance. Food waste, textiles and residual waste must be placed in tied bags, while materials such as glass, metal and cardboard are delivered loose. Bulky waste can be ordered online, and the waste plan På vej mod et cirkulært Aarhus focuses on recycling and reduced CO2 emissions.

At home, waste is sorted into five containers or equivalent shared solutions: residual waste, food waste, glass and metal, plastic and food/beverage cartons, paper/cardboard/textiles and hazardous waste.
Kredsløb collects bulky waste free of charge at your home when collection is booked in advance. The scheme is for broken household items, while reusable items should preferably be passed on or handed in for reuse.
Aarhus has six larger recycling centres and local recycling stations in the city centre. The larger sites accept many waste types, while the local stations focus on selected fractions and free reuse finds.
Garden waste can be handed in at recycling centres, and Kredsløb states that a garden waste container can be added with collection from February to November.
