In Ballerup Municipality, household waste is sorted into ten fractions, including food waste, residual waste, paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, metal, textiles, food and beverage cartons and hazardous waste. Vestforbrænding handles collection and operations. Containers must be accessible for collection, and recycling centres accept hazardous waste and larger items. Glass, metal and plastic should be emptied and reasonably clean to support recycling quality.

Ballerup Municipality's recycling station is located at Energivej 44 and has 24-hour access for registered users. Staffed opening hours are every day from 10-18.
Residents and businesses in Ballerup Municipality can use 23 recycling stations in Vestforbrænding's area. Food and residual waste, explosive waste, clinical risk waste and medicine waste are not accepted at the recycling station.
Waste in sacks must be handed in using transparent plastic sacks. The recycling station also has a direct-reuse room where visitors may take items placed there.
Bulky waste is collected every 4 weeks and must be placed out sorted at the property boundary. Garden waste is collected every 14 days from 1 March to 30 November.
