In Horsens Municipality, household waste is sorted into ten fractions, including food waste, residual waste, glass, plastic, paper, metal, textiles and cardboard. Detached houses receive containers to support sorting, and the municipality provides information and guidance through the Mit Affald app. Bulky waste can be arranged separately, and the scheme supports the municipality’s goal of reducing waste and increasing recycling.

Food waste must be placed in the green bags supplied by the municipality. The bag must be tied with a knot before it is placed in the bin.
Horsens Municipality offers free bulky-waste collection at the home. Bulky waste can also be handed in as sorted waste at the recycling centres.
The municipality has recycling centres in Horsens, Brædstrup and Vedslet, plus a solution on Endelave. The sites are for ordinary household-like waste, but not residual and food waste.
Construction and demolition waste must be reported for relevant renovation and demolition projects. From 2025, private residents may not demolish asbestos themselves, but the municipality can still collect asbestos-containing waste according to the rules.
