In Køge Municipality, waste is sorted into fractions such as plastic, paper, glass, metal, food waste, residual waste and hazardous waste. The municipality provides containers that households must use according to local regulations and access requirements. Bulky waste, garden waste and electronics have separate schemes, and residents can sign up for SMS reminders about collection days.

Bulky waste must be sorted into different waste types, such as cardboard, metal, electronic waste, larger plastic items and combustible waste. Waste outside the scheme must be taken to the recycling centre.
Køge Municipality has recycling centres in Køge and Bjæverskov, operated through the ARGO cooperation. Residents can also use other ARGO recycling centres, including sites in Roskilde and Stevns Municipality.
At the recycling centre in Køge, usable items can be handed in for direct reuse, picked up free of charge by others or resold in the Gensalg shop.
The recycling centres accept most waste types, but not residual waste, food waste, ammunition, medicine or dead animals. These waste types must be handled through other schemes.
