In Lejre Municipality, households sort residual waste, food waste, paper/cardboard, plastic/food and beverage cartons, metal and glass. Food waste is used for biogas and fertiliser, while plastic is sent for recycling. Hazardous waste is collected in a red environmental box several times a year, and bulky waste and garden waste can be ordered for collection. Larger waste such as electronics can be delivered to recycling centres.

Plastic and food and beverage cartons, metal, and paper/cardboard are collected every 4 weeks. Glass is typically handed in at bottle banks around the municipality or according to the local shared-bin solution.
Households receive new green bags for food waste each year. If you run out, you can tie an empty bag to the residual/food waste bin so the collector leaves new bags at the next collection.
Bulky waste must be sorted into separate piles, including metal, electronics, indoor wood, textiles, cardboard and residual sorted bulky waste. A maximum of 15 units may be handed in each time.
Torkilstrup Recycling Centre is operated by ARGO. Residents and businesses have access to ARGO's recycling centres in Lejre, Roskilde, Køge, Stevns and Kalundborg municipalities.
At the recycling centre, waste may only be handed in using clear and transparent sacks. Torkilstrup also has Gensalg/Direct Reuse, where usable items can get a longer life.
