In Mariagerfjord Municipality, residents sort waste into ten categories: residual waste, food waste, paper, cardboard, plastic, metal, glass, food and beverage cartons, hazardous waste and textile waste. Food waste is kept separate for biogas and composting, while recyclable materials must be sorted for recycling. Hazardous waste, electronics and worn textiles can be delivered to recycling centres or collected by agreement. The Dit Affald self-service solution provides collection calendars, bulky waste orders and reports of missed collections.

Mariagerfjord Municipality has recycling centres at Als, Arden, Hadsund, Hobro and Mariager. Waste in bags must be delivered in clear bags.
Residents can book bulky-waste collection for items such as furniture, white goods, bundled cardboard, garden waste and polystyrene. The scheme has limits for amount, length and weight.
Hazardous waste is collected in the environmental box, which can be placed out for exchange. Batteries, light sources and liquids must be packed and closed correctly, and the box must not be too heavy.
Resursen is a reuse shop at Hobro Recycling Centre, where usable items can get a new life instead of becoming waste.
Asbestos-containing waste and construction waste follow separate rules. Smaller amounts of asbestos can be delivered at recycling centres, while larger tasks must follow the municipality's instructions.
