Practical waste information

Municipal waste rules

In Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality, residents sort waste according to national ten-fraction goals. Food and residual waste are collected every two weeks, while recyclable waste is collected every three weeks. Green bags are used for food waste, and the recycling container is divided into paper/cardboard and metal/cartons/plastic. Recyclable waste should be placed loose in the container, not in bags, to support correct sorting.

Waste services

Food and residual waste

Residents and holiday home owners must sort food and residual waste in divided containers. Food waste must be placed in the supplied green bags, and the collection trucks are also divided so the waste stays separate during collection.

Recyclable waste at home

In the recyclable waste container, paper and cardboard go in one compartment, while metal, plastic and food/beverage cartons go in the other. Waste must be placed loose in the container, not in bags.

Different sorting at recycling centres

At recycling centres, recyclable waste must be sorted into clean waste types, such as paper separately and cardboard separately. The municipality explains that this more detailed sorting lowers disposal costs.

Recycling centres and transparent sacks

If waste is handed in using plastic sacks at a recycling centre, the sacks must be transparent. Some smaller sites do not accept all waste types, and hazardous waste is directed to the larger recycling centres.

Underground waste systems

Housing associations, care homes, owner associations and similar properties can establish underground waste systems, but the municipality must approve the solution before it is installed.
