In Samsø Municipality, household waste is sorted into fractions such as glass, paper, cardboard, plastic, metal, food waste and residual waste. Harpesdal recycling centre accepts recyclable materials and hazardous waste such as batteries and electronics. Bulky waste collection can be ordered during specific periods. Correct sorting is important for preserving the island’s environment.

Food waste can be placed in an ordinary plastic bag. Special bags are not required, but the bag must be closed before being placed in the bin.
On Samsø, recycling islands and resource sites are used for waste types that do not belong in ordinary bins. The municipality provides maps and sorting guides so residents and visitors can find the correct solution.
Harpesdal Recycling Centre is located at Nørreskiftevej 41 and accepts recyclable materials, hazardous waste, electronics, batteries, garden waste and other waste types not collected at home.
Samsø Municipality offers collection of up to 3 m3 of bulky waste at the home. Collection must be booked at least three weeks in advance, and the waste must be sorted and placed out correctly.
Construction waste must always be sorted carefully. If the waste contains problematic substances such as PCB, asbestos, chlorinated paraffins, PAHs or heavy metals, it must be screened, mapped and assigned by the municipality.
