Silkeborg Municipality is known as Denmark’s Outdoor Capital, with lakes, forests and the Gudenå river creating excellent conditions for recreation. The municipality also has cultural life and a strong business structure.
In Silkeborg Municipality, household waste is sorted into ten fractions: food waste, residual waste, paper/cardboard, plastic, metal, glass, food and beverage cartons, textiles, hazardous waste and electronics. Each household uses three divided containers, allowing several waste types to be sorted at home. Silkeborg Forsyning manages collection, while hazardous waste must be delivered to recycling stations. The waste and resource plan aims to increase recycling and reduce waste.
