In Tårnby Municipality, waste is sorted into fractions such as residual waste, food waste, cardboard, paper, metal, plastic, food and beverage cartons, glass and hazardous waste. Residents typically have four containers: food/residual waste, cardboard, paper/metal and plastic/cartons. Bulky waste and garden waste are collected every four weeks, and hazardous waste can be placed in a red environmental box collected several times a year. Containers must meet access and placement requirements for safe collection.

Residual and food waste are collected weekly. Plastic and food and beverage cartons and cardboard are collected every 4 weeks, paper and metal every 8 weeks, garden waste and bulky waste every 4 weeks, and hazardous waste 4 times a year by registration.
Households with their own waste solution typically have four bins: residual/food waste, cardboard, paper/metal and plastic with food and beverage cartons. Bins must be placed so collection staff can collect them safely.
Bulky waste is collected every 4 weeks and includes discarded household items too large for a bin with a closed lid. Construction waste, PVC, treated wood, soil, stone and flat glass must be taken to the recycling centre.
The local recycling centre is located at Kirstinehøj 25C in Kastrup. Tårnby is part of the ARC collaboration, which also operates several recycling centres in Greater Copenhagen.
Up to 1 tonne of non-hazardous construction waste can be handed in at the recycling centre. More than 1 tonne, hazardous waste, asbestos or replacement of sealed glazing units from 1950-1977 must be reported to the municipality at least 2 weeks before the work.
