Varde Municipality in West Jutland is known for its long North Sea coastline and scenic natural areas. It attracts nature lovers and visitors and has strong local communities with a focus on sustainable development.
In Varde Municipality, household waste is sorted into fractions such as residual waste, food waste, paper, plastic, metal and glass. DIN Forsyning administers waste collection, and all households have access to staffed recycling centres where electronics, hazardous waste and other waste types can be delivered. Mandatory food waste sorting supports increased recycling in line with EU targets, and recycling centres accept reusable materials and bulky waste.

All households must be part of the residual and food waste scheme. The standard bin is divided, with residual waste in the large compartment and food waste in the small compartment, and is collected every 14 days.
DIN Forsyning has separate schemes for cardboard and paper, plastic and food and beverage cartons, and glass and metal. Collection calendars and reminders are available through DIN Forsyning self-service.
Hazardous waste is handled through an environmental box, while textile waste has its own scheme. Both must be kept separate from residual waste so they can be treated correctly.
Varde Municipality has five recycling centres: Varde, Oksbøl, Nørre Nebel, Ølgod and Vrenderup. Larger waste, electronics, hazardous waste and materials that do not belong in household bins can be handed in there.
Construction waste must be reported to Varde Municipality if the project creates more than 1 tonne of waste, affects more than 10 m2, includes sealed glazing units from 1950-1977 or may contain hazardous substances such as asbestos, PCB or heavy metals.
