In Vordingborg Municipality, household waste is sorted into ten fractions: food waste, residual waste, paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, metal, textiles, food and beverage cartons and hazardous waste. Households receive three containers and an environmental box for hazardous waste and small electronics. The municipality cooperates with AffaldPlus on sorting and recycling, and sorting guides and collection schedules are updated regularly. Waste should be scraped free of residue to reduce odour and improve recycling quality.

AffaldPlus owns and operates the recycling centres in Vordingborg Municipality. Residents can use the sites in Vordingborg/Ørslev, Møn and Præstø and find sorting guidance from AffaldPlus.
The municipality has drop-off banks for glass, paper and small cardboard. Private residents can use them if they have an exemption from having their own bins or have extra glass, paper or small cardboard.
Bulky waste can be collected 12 times a year if each collection is ordered. Large electronics can be delivered as bulky waste or at the recycling centre.
Hazardous waste must be delivered at the recycling centre or in the red environmental box. Medicine residues can also be handed in at pharmacies, and a maximum of 2 x 25 kg/litres hazardous waste may be delivered per day at the recycling centre.
Construction waste can often be delivered to the recycling centre, but larger or problematic projects must follow municipal guidance. The municipality also has a collection scheme for smaller amounts of asbestos.
