Municipal waste rules:

In Aalborg Municipality, waste is sorted into ten fractions, including food waste, plastic, metal, paper, glass and residual waste. Food waste is placed in green bags and used for biogas and fertiliser. Households receive a sorting starter kit with bags and a small kitchen bin for food waste. Nordværk handles waste operations and runs the recycling centres, where residents can hand in many waste types except food and residual waste. Nordværk handles waste operations

Aalborg Municipality has transferred waste operation tasks to the inter-municipal waste company Nordværk. Nordværk handles collection, recycling centres and practical waste services.

Food waste in green bags

Food waste is sorted into supplied green bags, tied securely and placed in the same container as black residual-waste bags. The bags are separated at the colour-sorting facility.

Waste bags can be picked up locally

Green food-waste bags and black residual-waste bags can be picked up at municipal libraries, selected parcel lockers and recycling centres. Housing associations and apartment buildings may have local arrangements.

Recycling centres

All waste types except food and residual waste can be handed in at the municipality's recycling centres. The centres accept cardboard, paper, glass, hard plastic, clean wood, EPS and hazardous waste, among other types.

Aalborg Municipality's waste plan for 2026-2037 focuses on more reuse and less waste, including better reuse options, modern recycling centres and solutions for residents without cars in the city centre.
