Egedal Municipality is located northwest of Copenhagen and is characterised by large natural areas, forests and lakes. The municipality focuses on sustainable development and combines urban and rural living.
In Egedal Municipality, household waste is sorted into ten fractions, including food waste, residual waste, paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, metal, textiles, food and beverage cartons and hazardous waste. Residents use containers for food and residual waste as well as recyclable materials such as paper, cardboard, plastic and metal. Hazardous waste is collected in a red environmental box, and recycling centres accept larger items and bulky waste. The Egedalsorterer portal and app provide collection dates and sorting guidance.

For apartments, terraced houses and shared housing areas, the solution depends on the local property setup. Residents can use Affaldsportalen to see local schemes and find the nearest recycling island.
Egedal offers collection of bulky waste, garden waste and hazardous waste at home through self-service. New food-waste bags can be picked up at libraries, Stenløse Recycling Centre and citizen service at Egedal Town Hall.
The municipality has three recycling centres in Smørum, Stenløse and Ølstykke. Recyclable waste can be handed in there, and Stenløse and Ølstykke offer extended 24-hour access after registration.
Egedalsorterer and Affaldsportalen provide access to a digital sorting guide, collection dates, pickup orders, SMS/e-mail service and reporting of missed collections.
