Municipal waste rules

In Fanø Municipality, waste is sorted into fractions such as glass, metal, cardboard, paper, plastic, food waste and residual waste. Residents have access to environmental stations and the recycling centre in Nordby. Food waste must be placed in bio bags, while glass and metal should be emptied and reasonably clean. 10 national waste fractions

On Fanø, waste is sorted into the 10 national fractions. The municipality describes food waste, residual waste, textile waste, food and beverage cartons, glass, metal, plastic, paper, cardboard and hazardous waste.

Recycling centre in Nordby

Fanø Recycling Centre is located at Sønder Nytoft 7 in Nordby. Residents can deliver sorted waste there, except residual waste, food waste and medicine residues.

Direct reuse at the recycling centre

Fanø Municipality and Fællesskabet Fanø have a trial area for direct reuse at the recycling centre, including usable building materials such as boards, windows, doors, tiles and bricks.

Environmental and super-environmental stations

Several waste types can be delivered to environmental stations and super-environmental stations, including textile waste and food/beverage cartons. All packaging waste should be scraped clean of contents.

Holiday homes and shared bins

Holiday homes have separate waste schemes, and residents can in some cases share a waste bin with a neighbour. Fees include a housing contribution, recycling-centre fee and collection fee.

Business access and number-plate scanner

Businesses can use the recycling centre in Nordby for a fee. Fanø Municipality has introduced number-plate scanning so business vehicles are registered automatically on entry.
