Hvidovre Municipality is located close to Copenhagen and combines residential areas, business zones, good infrastructure and recreational areas. It is attractive for families and companies that want proximity to the capital.
In Hvidovre Municipality, waste is sorted into fractions including plastic, paper, glass, metal, food waste, residual waste and hazardous waste. The municipality provides containers that households must use according to local regulations and access requirements. Bulky waste, garden waste and electronics have separate schemes, and residents can sign up for SMS reminders about collection days.

The municipality's digital sorting guide shows where specific waste types should be handed in, and whether they can go to the recycling centre or must be handled through other schemes.
Hvidovre Recycling Centre is located at Avedøreholmen 97. Residents can hand in many types of sorted waste and can also use Amager Ressourcecenter's other recycling centres.
Bulky waste from detached and terraced houses includes discarded household items such as furniture and textile waste. It must be sorted and packed correctly and must not include hazardous waste, asbestos, sanitary ware or loose waste in opaque sacks.
Hazardous waste such as paint, compact fluorescent bulbs and fluorescent tubes must not be placed loose with bulky waste. It must be handed in using the red environmental box or according to other municipal guidance.
Residual waste is normally not handed in at the recycling centre, but the municipality may temporarily place containers during service disruptions, for example during snow and ice. Food waste and food and beverage cartons cannot be handed in at the recycling centre.
