Roskilde Municipality is known for its Viking heritage and the annual Roskilde Festival, one of Europe’s largest music festivals. The city offers cultural life, education opportunities and a scenic location by the fjord.
In Roskilde Municipality, household waste is sorted into fractions such as plastic, paper, glass, metal, food waste and textiles. Bio bags are provided for food waste, and extra bags can be requested by tying a bag to the food/residual waste container. Bulky waste and garden waste schemes are available, while ARGO recycling centres accept electronics, hazardous waste and construction waste. The Perfect Waste app provides sorting guidance and collection reminders.

Households with individual bins generally have a 240-litre divided bin for residual waste and food waste, collected every 14 days. Residual waste must be in closed bags, and food waste in closed green bio bags.
Roskilde residents sort residual waste, food waste, glass, metal, cardboard and paper, plastic and food and beverage cartons, hazardous waste and textile waste at home.
Food waste is delivered to ARGO and used for biogas and fertiliser. Cooking oil must not go in food waste, but should be handed in as hazardous waste in a closed container.
The municipality has schemes for extra residual waste, bulky waste and garden waste. Suitable garden waste is sent for treatment, including at Solum.
Roskilde Municipality has recycling centres in Roskilde, Jyllinge and Viby. They are operated through the ARGO collaboration and are used for waste that cannot be placed in ordinary bins.
