Municipal waste rules
In Svendborg Municipality, household waste is sorted into ten trash categories: food waste, residual waste, paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, metal, textiles, food and beverage cartons and hazardous waste. Food and residual waste are collected in the energy container, while recyclables such as paper/cardboard and glass/metal are placed in resource containers. The recycling vehicle collects plastic and hazardous waste monthly, and recycling centres accept electronics and larger items. The Affaldsportalen app provides sorting guidance and collection dates.

Municipal waste service information
Sorting guidance
The searchable sorting guide shows whether an item belongs in a household bin, the Genbrugsbil or a specific recycling-station container. Affaldsportal combines the guide, calendar, service reporting and station maps.
Bulky waste
The Genbrugsbil collects furniture, large metal, appliances, electronics and textile waste once a month. Place no more than ten separated units at the nearest public road by 7 a.m.; small items must generally be packed in clear 110-litre sacks.
Hazardous waste
Hazardous waste is handed in through the red box to the Genbrugsbil or at a recycling station. The box may weigh no more than 8 kg, must be marked with the address and contain clearly labelled closed containers; medicine and needles go to a pharmacy.
Garden waste and composting
The Genbrugsbil collects separated garden waste once a month under special packing and placement rules. Garden waste can also be taken to the Svendborg and Hesselager stations or used in the garden; clean garden waste from the sites is turned into, among other things, free compost.
