In Syddjurs Municipality, household waste is sorted into ten trash categories, including residual waste, food waste, paper, cardboard, plastic, metal, glass, textiles, food and beverage cartons and hazardous waste. Reno Djurs manages household services in Syddjurs. In self-service you can view collection days, report missed collections and order bins or bags; paper, cardboard and textile waste is normally collected every eight weeks for homes with individual bins.

Syddjurs does not have an ordinary household bulky-waste collection service. Furniture, appliances and other large items must be sorted and delivered to a Reno Djurs recycling station, including Ebeltoft, Feldballe, Hornslet, Knebel or Ryomgård.
Hazardous waste must be handed to staff at a recycling station and must not be placed in household bins. Batteries, chemicals, paint and light bulbs must be kept separate; leftover medicine and needles go to a pharmacy.
Garden waste is delivered to a recycling station, where it becomes compost and soil improver, or composted at home. Reno Djurs provides a composting handbook; private burning is generally prohibited, and small amounts of suitable green material can be composted on the property.
