In Vallensbæk Municipality, household waste is sorted into ten fractions: food waste, residual waste, paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, metal, textiles, food and beverage cartons and hazardous waste. Food and residual waste are collected in a divided container, while containers for plastic, paper and metal are emptied regularly. Recycling and waste can also be delivered to local recycling stations or collected through bulky waste schemes. The municipality cooperates with Vestforbrænding to support correct sorting and recycling.

Detached and terraced houses with individual bins have a 240-litre divided bin for food and residual waste. The bin is normally collected weekly, but every 14 days can be chosen outside the summer months.
Detached and terraced houses can use an environmental box for hazardous waste, placed visibly by the food/residual waste bin on collection day. Apartment buildings may have environmental cabinets according to local arrangements.
Bulky waste must be clearly sorted into the relevant waste types. Garden waste can be collected through the municipality's scheme or handed in at a recycling station.
Vallensbæk residents can use recycling stations in Vestforbrænding's area, including Brøndby Recycling Station and the other stations in Ressourceindsamling's network.
The basic fee covers access to recycling stations, bring banks, bulky-waste schemes, collection of recyclable waste and administration.
